Why should I pick you instead of a cheaper option?

Experience and expertise matters.  I have years of experience and know how the brain learns.  I've been a certified teacher since 1993 and have taught learners of all types to read and to love to read.

Intensive intervention requires a specialized level of knowledge.

I specialize in dyslexia intervention and use the Wilson Reading System, an Orton-Gillingham based multisensory, structured literacy approach for students who need comprehensive intervention.  Many of my dyslexic students benefit from this explicit instruction in reading, spelling, fluency and comprehension.

In addition, I am trained in Reading Simplified and certified in EBLI (Evidence Based Literacy Intervention).  Both are speech to print programs which are highly effective for students.  The speech to print approach is on which accelerates students through the reading code and gets them to grade level quickly.

My method is to assess each student and teach them exactly what they need, whether it is an Orton-Gillingham approach like Wilson, or a speech to print approach like EBLI.  Both are highly successful in helping kids learn to read, but some students are better suited to one or the other.  I use my experience and expertise to determine the best approach for your child.

With expert targeted instruction, all children can improve their reading skills and reach their full potential.

I have a unique perspective not just as a teacher, but as the parent of a dyslexic child.  Read more about my journey by clicking here.

While you could contract with a cheaper option, you might not get the results your child deserves.

Children with dyslexia or other language-based learning disabilities require systematic, structured lessons over a sustained period of time.  People with other learning issues may benefit from a speech to print approach.  I am trained, certified, and experienced in both.  I individualize each lesson to the student in front of me.

Students I work with progress quickly through the material to become successful readers in a short period of time.

In addition, each lesson I teach is diagnostic and prescriptive.  That means that each lesson is planned especially for your child.

It is completely individualized based upon your child's mastery.

Each tutoring session requires significant planning time before it even starts.
